Stateful packet inspection is a dynamic packet filtering technique in which each data packet is assigned to a specific active session. In the case of the Managed Firewall from MOORnetworks, this means that sets of rules are only created for incoming data traffic. The response still comes back to the sender, as the firewall allows dynamic and time-limited responses.
With a stateless firewall, both outgoing and incoming rules must be defined. This has a negative effect on security in that the remote station can and may also communicate with the computer in the LAN at any time.
